Hello!

I’m Suzanne, and I’m the teacher here at The Sewing Lounge. I am so excited to be able to invite you into my sewing studio where I can share my passion for sewing and creating.

I believe that sewing is such a valuable life-long skill that gives you the freedom to make so many things. Whether it’s home décor, a handmade gift, an outfit for yourself, or even just to be able to repurpose something you already have or fix the button or hem on a pair of trousers, the skill of sewing opens up so many opportunities.

My own sewing journey originated from my mums passion for sewing and always making my sister and I matching outfits when we were younger. At college I was more interested in the textiles side of sewing and using multi-media, however when I made an embellished jacket as my end of year project I fell in love with fashion and the making of clothes. I went onto an art college to cement my pathway into fashion and then completed a 3 year degree in Fashion Design at Birmingham City University in the UK.

I went on to work for a large retailer as a pattern cutter both in clothing and lingerie where I worked for 4 years. As a military wife, I gave up this career to travel around with my husband and children, however I have always kept my love for sewing going with various jobs including an alterations and bespoke clothing business, teaching beginners dressmaking at a military education centre, making face-masks during the covid pandemic, and an accessories business which I still own now.

I am now delighted to be able to have a space that I can share with others and hope to show many of you how fun and rewarding sewing can be. Whether you are looking to start a new hobby, learn some helpful skills, or just to meet some like minded people, I’m here for it and can’t wait to meet you!
